Farming
Farming examines food-delivery labour as a form of contemporary urban cultivation. Discarded delivery bags are unfolded into a reflective aluminium-foil ground, while their colourful handles rise vertically like artificial crops. The riders' repetitive movement across the city becomes a new cycle of cultivation: the land being worked is no longer farmland, but the consumer city itself. Rather than constructing a permanent architectural object, Zhang revalues the remnants of an existing urban system. The reflective surface also addresses the instability of home: riders may labour across thousands of square kilometres while occupying only a few square metres of private living space. The next phase shifts from riders to consumers, allowing the installation to grow into real domestic environments such as living rooms, kitchens, and dining spaces.
